Year 698 of the Second Age

The Year of the Broken Spectacles

(366th Year of the 6th Unknown King of Duinnor)

§
Duinnor imposes a standard of weights and measures to be used in commerce. Other realms adopt these standards fairly quickly, but retain some of their own local standards, too.

Examples of the King's Measure:

1 pound = 16 ounces = 1/4 stone

1 yard = 3 feet = 2 cubits

1 mile = 1/3 league = 8 furlongs

Furthermore, Duinnor insists that all trade with Duinnor be done using the King's Silver and Gold, a monetary standard:

A Duinnor Silver is to be one King's Ounce in weight

A Duinnor Gold is to be 1/2 King's Ounce in weight

1 Duinnor Gold coin is to be equal to 10 Duinnor Silvers

1 Duinnor Penny is to be equal to 1/100th Duinnor Gold

Duinnor also declares that any Duinnor Coin be exchanged for no less than 1 and 1/10th the equivalent weight in "foreign" metal. In trade, the additional King's Tenth is to be demanded in favor of Duinnor and provided to the King on all trade transactions, regardless of the coin or medium of exchange.
