In the Dragonlands, the medicine called darakal is refined for the first time. It is made from a rare herb grown in the more hospitable river valleys of the southern Dragonlands in a region called Karkarando nearby to the sea. In small quantities, taken at wide intervals, darakal provides relief from the sickness that normally shortens the lives of the Dragonkind. It is soon discovered that a more refined version, taken at frequent intervals, almost completely rids one of the scales and other illnesses associated with living in the deserts. Tajahnaman quickly moves to secure monopolies on the cultivation of the herb and on the refining of darakal.
